Purpose

"The mission of the University Alumni Association is to draw together, blend, and unite existing alumni from University High School. We seek to provide practical avenues for alumni of the high school to grow in spiritual, educational, and daily aspects of their lives and to encourage alumni of the University to invest their time, talent, and treasure for the betterment of fellow University graduates. The UAA serves as a link between University graduates, to help alumni stay in touch and involved while at Berkeley and to provide opportunities for social interaction, networking and volunteer service of all kinds."

    UNIVERSITY ALUMNI ASSOCIATION CONSTITUTION

    Article I - Name & Ownership
    The name of this association shall be the "University Alumni Association - Unity through Diversity." It shall be briefed as UAA. Established on University of Berkeley campus on Feb. 1st, 2005.

    Article II - Mission Statement and Purpose
    The mission of the University Alumni Association is to draw together, blend, and unite existing alumni from University High School. We seek to provide practical avenues for alumni of the high school to grow in spiritual, educational, and daily aspects of their lives and to encourage alumni of the University to invest their time, talent, and treasure for the betterment of fellow University graduates. The UAA serves as a link between University graduates, to help alumni stay in touch and involved while at Berkeley and to provide opportunities for social interaction, networking and volunteer service of all kinds.

    The purpose of University Alumni Association is to be at the forefront of uniting our fellow peers from University High School with alumni together in a mission for gaining strength and stability in challenging environments. The intent of this organization is to bring a diversity of people together in union for an opportunity to allow more knowledgeable and experienced peers help incoming members. With a vision of camaraderie and friendship, the organization plans to further its pursuits through a wealth of insider tips and a multitude of gatherings designed to bring a sense of security and family in a new environment.

    Article III - Membership
    Membership in this association will include those who attended University High School in Irvine, California. Membership can be attained by graduation or Certification from University High School. Those who have been awarded honorary degrees or alumnus status are also considered members of this association.

    Only currently registered students, faculty and staff may be active members in a registered student organization. Only active members may vote or hold office.

    We will not haze according to California State Law; we will not restrict membership based upon race, color, national origin, religion, sex, physical and mental disability, medical condition (cancer-related or genetic characteristics), ancestry, marital status, age, sexual orientation, citizenship or status as a covered veteran (special disabled veteran, Vietnam-era veteran or any other veteran who served on active duty during a war or in a campaign or expedition for which a campaign badge has been authorized.

    Article IV - Officer/Elections
  • Elections will be conducted every semester near the end through open elections. All active members of UAA can vote, and each vote counts equally. All officer positions are semester long positions. A majority (2/3) of the votes must be collected for each running candidate in order for the winning of the position. An officer will be replaced if he/she does not fulfill the duties assigned to that position. The decision of replacement lies primarily in the hands of the executive committee. President will chair and provide creative leadership of the cabinet in fulfilling the objectives of the association meetings and program. He/She shall oversee the planning and execution of Welcome Night. President will be the primary signatory.
  • Internal Vice President should be acquainted with and prepared to assume the duties or position of the president in his/her absence, assist the association and president in their functions, activities, and plans. He/She shall oversee the planning and execution of Welcome night.
  • External Vice President should conduct contact and business with the Associated Students of the University of California. He/She must attend orientations and handle relations having to do with ASUC. He/She is also responsible for the planning and execution of Course Advising Night in the beginning of the new semester.
  • Executive Assistant will record minutes of each UAA meeting and assist the association and chairman in their functions, activities and plans. He/She will make and distribute member/buddy surveys and keep records of all active members. He/She is responsible for the Mentorship program.

    President, Internal Vice President, External Vice President, and Executive Assistant make up the executive committee.

  • Director of Alumni Relations will be responsible for conducting relations with students at University High School to promote the benefits of the organization. He/She is also responsible for publicizing the organization to the students.
  • Treasurer handles fundraising activities to raise money for the organization.
  • Public Relations handles advertising of the club through sprouling, making flyers, or handbilling. He/She must also advertise on University High School campus.
  • 4 Class Representatives are responsible for the planning and execution of social events such as BBQ, Buddy Field Day, San Fran Trips, Game Night, and Movie Night.

  • Article V - Association Meetings
    The association will sponsor informal and any formal alumni activities at least once a month. Any other alumni meetings, activities, or related events conducive to fulfilling the objectives of the association and the university may be instituted upon recommendation of the executive board.

    Article VI - Constitutional Amendments
    Amendments to this constitution or adoption of a new constitution may be enacted by a two-thirds majority vote on the Alumni Board. All amendments, or adoption of a new constitution must also be approved by the President UAA.

    All amendments, additions or deletions must be filed with the Office of Student Life, 102 Sproul Hall.

    Article VII - Dissolution
    Dissolution will be decided by the executive committee. A two-thirds majority votes of active members must be needed to dissolve a group. All remaining funds shall be put into a scholarship bank account for students of University High School.

    Article VIII - Alumni Association Activities
    The Alumni Association will assist in the operation and maintenance of the following activities consistent with the policy of Berkeley.
  • Welcome Night: For all students both graduates of University High School and other friends. Introduction and implementation of Mentorship Program.
  • BBQ at Park
  • Game Night
  • Game Day
  • Movie Night
  • San Francisco Joint Trips
  • Tennis Day
  • Course Advising
  • Community Service Projects

    Article IX - American with Disabilities Act and Student Groups
  • The Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act are federal civil rights laws that prohibit discrimination against people with disabilities. These lays, as well as state laws and University Policies, assure equal access by people with disabilities to all of the University’s activities, programs, and services.
  • As a recognized student group on the Berkeley campus, we have agreed to conduct our organization and its activities in accordance with the federal and state laws and University Policies.
